Wraethworld by Kody Boye - DarkwingMantis Reviews

I had the pleasure to pick up Wraethworld during Kody Boye's birthday giveaway for free. Let me tell you that I would have happily paid for it.

Wraethworld is simply put Dark fantasy at it's absolute finest. Usually I am not a fan of fantasy stories (Dark or otherwise) but from the moment I started reading the tale of young Mary Matthews I couldn't put my kindle down.

After waking to the strange form of a half fish woman floating above her bed claiming that her world is in danger, Young Mary Matthews, during a school field trip, accidentally steps into the land of Wraethworld, a world in danger and Mary is the only one who can save it.

Wraethworld is a fully realized, infinitely beautiful, shockingly terrifying land filled with creatures that both shock and amaze in their beauty and cruelty. The writing is engaging and fast paced with characters that entice you to read more and to follow their journey through this land with emphasis on Mary, the child protagonist of the story. For a character so young she is complex, brave, bold, innocent and terrified all wrapped up into one single believable person trapped in a nightmare world so dark and threatening and at the same time inviting and beautiful to behold.

Wraethworld is short (it is a novella after all) and a wonderful way to introduce yourself to the writings of Kody Boye. An author that I have had the honor to watch grow from a naive young author to a voice of strength and imagination (something so rarely found in one so young). Kody lays out a story rich with detail and imagination, a world so fully realized you believe that you could possibly fall through a mirror and find yourself there.

Give this a read. At $.99 you really cant miss and you may just find yourself a fan of this fantastic young voice....
